M Lees and Sons has dated this piece to the 1880s.

The original , now exhibited at the 'Museo Archeologico Naples', was excavated at ill-fated Pompeii in 1830 from the site of the 'House of the Faun' ( 'Casa del Fauno') where it had been positioned at the lip of the "impluvium", a basin used to collect rain-water.
Nice smaller-scale example of this iconic image of the bearded, horned and tailed dancing mythical woodland 'faun' creature , depicted dancing in an ecstatic pose.
