Grand Tour Serpentine Figure of 'Dying Gaul'

A Grand Tour late 19th century Italian serpentine figure of 'The Dying Gaul' on integral oval base, after the antique.

The Dying Gaul or Dying Gladiator is depicted in his final moments next to his shield and sword, his face in pain with a fatal wound to his torso.

The original marble figure which is found in the Capitoline Museum in Rome is a Roman copy of a Greek sculpture thought to have been in bronze.

The photographs show old fractures to his neck, torso and base although it is quite common to find fractures on a piece of this size, age and of this medium and this is reflected in the price.
