Pair of late C19th Italian 'Grand Tour' souvenir bronzes after the antique ,"Mercury and "Fortuna". Well-cast bronze copies of the models by Renaissance sculptor Giambologna (1529-1608), now housed in the Bargello Museum , Florence ,Italy. Mercury, the Roman messenger to the Gods , is depicted with his winged helmet, winged feet and holding his herald's staff or 'caduceus'. Fortuna , Goddess of luck and good fortune, is depicted wrapped in flowing gowns, holding a cornucopia. Both are raised balanced upon the winds of the Boreas, mounted upon bronze and black marble cylindrical plinths. The cast detail around the plinths showing cherubs or 'amorini' , depicting the Arts. Good original condition , dark patination with some minor wear to colouring of legs from handling, commensurate with age. No damage or losses.
