Capturing Venus or Aphrodite imagery , the sculpture depicts an innocent young woman extending her leg shyly towards the water.

This highly regarded sculpture by the famous French artist, is recognised as capturing the sensual moment when a young girl becomes a woman. This well-executed version in pure white alabaster is signed on the rear edge "D. Cicchelli". The sculpture stands upon a contrasting turned socle base of black and white striated alabaster. Has a minor hair-line 'crack' to neck which could be a joint to the stone when carved.
Italy , probably Naples or Rome c. 1870.
