It was widely regarded as a major work of art. The Copeland bust has become a well known and eagerly collected piece. The original bill for this piece is in the Copeland Archive at the Spode factory. It states "Alderman Copeland to R.Monti Sculptor 41, Gt. Marlboro' Street. To Model of Small Veiled Head representing "The Bride" and copyright of it. £10.0.0 October 11 1860". The cost of making each piece was three shillings and the retail price was twenty one shillings or one guinea.
