Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 18th century Sheraton window seat is made from painted timber with parcel gilding, presenting a black and gold colour scheme. The piece stands at 81 cm high, 94 cm wide, and 33 cm deep, featuring a gentle bow-shaped front, turned legs, and pointed arch splats on both ends. Parcel gilding highlights the framework, which includes a loose cushion upholstered in floral needlepoint fabric showing shades of red, white, and green on a tan background. Positioned traditionally in a bay window, this furniture piece suits placement in a hallway, bedroom, or living room for supplementary seating. The painted finish displays light wear appropriate for its age, while the upright ends provide symmetrical back support at either end of the seat.

FAQs

Sheraton period window seats are defined by their slender, rectilinear proportions, delicate turned legs, and neoclassical decorative motifs such as painted detailing, gilt accents, and arched or shield-shaped end splats.

These seats were typically constructed from hardwoods such as mahogany or beech when intended for painted finishes, combined with gold leaf gilding and woven textile or needlepoint cushions.

Authentic late 18th-century painted furniture exhibits natural surface wear, faint craquelure in the painted finish, hand-turned timber joinery, and original hand-applied parcel gilding rather than modern uniform spray finishes.

An antique window seat is effectively positioned within architectural window recesses, placed along wide corridors, or arranged at the foot of a bed to add structural shape and decorative texture.

Painted and gilt timber should be kept away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting lightly with a dry microfibre cloth without using chemical cleaners or water.
