Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Ironwood carving has long traditions across regions where dense hardwoods occur, particularly in parts of Africa, the Americas, and Southeast Asia. Artisans selected these dense timbers for their durability and heavy weight, allowing for detailed anatomical rendering in wildlife subjects during the 20th century.

Ironwood is a generic term applied to exceptionally dense timber species that resist moisture and wear. Its tight grain structure enables sculptors to execute fine surface texturing, such as animal skin folds, without splintering.

Authentic hand-carved pieces feature subtle variations in tool marks, asymmetrical detailing across opposite sides, and natural grain features. Later mounted displays often show specific drill mountings or custom stand integration.

A dark wood sculpture mounted on a metal stand functions as a focal accent on low sideboards, open shelving, or executive desks. Pair it with neutral textiles, stone surfaces, or glass to highlight the carved silhouette and timber tone.

Dust regularly using a soft dry brush or microfiber cloth to clean recessed areas. Keep the object away from direct heat sources and high humidity to prevent cracking, applying microcrystalline wax sparingly to preserve the finish.
