Webberley Antiques has dated this Antique Elm Bacon Settle to the 18th Century.
This drawer would have held the salt and spices for preserving and flavouring the pork strips which were strung and hung to dry, away from vermin, inside the cupboard on large iron hooks (these hooks remain and are original also).

The seat with natural wear from nearly 300 years of use. Everyone would have stepped on the seat to reach the upper salt and spices drawer.
The seat remains entirely solid and usable and all the timbers are original.

The whole settle is solid and robust. Some old worm holes – mostly to the upper back panels where the settle would have sat next to a wall - and all long since dead. Small knocks and marks consistent with almost 300 years of caring use but nothing significant.

Panelled elm door and backboards.
The lower two drawers original also with original cast brass ring pull handles.A really beautiful and genuine example of high quality working vernacular furniture in exemplary original condition and with a truly fantastic colour.
