Salisbury Antiques Centre has dated this Victorian Walnut Sewing Table to the 1870s.
The beautifully figured, shaped rectangular top with rounded corners is decorated with delicate floral and foliate inlay, centred by an ornamental motif and complemented by further inlaid decoration to the front.
A series of small compartments to either side provides useful storage for sewing accessories and writing implements, whilst a fitted drawer beneath offers additional divided compartments.

Below is a shaped, suspended work basket, traditionally used for storing needlework and materials, with further decorative inlay and a shaped lower edge.
The table stands on elegant turned walnut supports, united by a turned stretcher, terminating in carved short cabriole legs raised on castors.

A particularly attractive and versatile example of Victorian furniture, combining the functions of a sewing table, work table and writing desk, with beautifully figured walnut, decorative inlay and an ingenious fitted interior.
