Chinese Carved Rose Quartz Rabbit Hare on Fitted Hardwood Stand C.1940

A charming Chinese carved rose quartz rabbit or hare, dating to the earlier/mid-20th century and attributed to circa 1940s, presented on its fitted carved hardwood stand.

The rabbit is carved from an attractive substantial piece of natural pale pink rose quartz, displaying good translucency together with the internal veining, fissures and colour variations characteristic of the material.

Modelled in a crouching pose, the animal has particularly prominent upright ears, a rounded body, elongated forelegs, folded hindquarters and a small circular tail. Incised carving defines the eyes, muzzle, paws and other anatomical details. The ears and extremities become especially translucent when illuminated.

The carving sits neatly upon a dark hardwood stand specifically shaped for the figure, with individually recessed positions corresponding to the feet.

IMPORTANT CONDITION: This piece has sustained historic damage and restoration, which is clearly reflected in the asking price. One ear has been broken and reattached and the repair remains clearly visible. There is also a substantial fracture running through the shoulder/upper body area, with evidence of historic repair. Further natural fissures and internal fractures are visible within the rose quartz, together with minor edge wear, small imperfections and surface marks consistent with age.

The restoration does not prevent the piece from displaying attractively, particularly when mounted on its fitted stand, but buyers should examine all photographs carefully as they form an important part of the condition report.
