Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large French industrial baker's rack dates from circa 1900, made by Dubois of Lyon. It has a cream painted metal frame incorporating nickel painted brass uprights and detail, open wire shelves, and tubular uprights. The top features scrollwork cresting, brass finials, and a wheatsheaf motif, alongside curved side shelves and vertical support bars. The piece measures 226 cm high, 290 cm wide, and 49 cm deep. In a modern interior, this sizeable baker's rack functions as practical open storage in a kitchen, pantry, or living space. The multi-tiered open wire design holds dishware, cookware, or decorative objects, while the broad proportions provide ample display capacity. The neutral cream finish and traditional industrial detailing suit French chateau style schemes and country house interiors alike.

FAQs

Originally designed for boulangeries in late 19th and early 20th century France, bakers racks were crafted with open wire tiers to allow freshly baked loaves and pastries to cool efficiently while remaining on display.

Period bakers racks were typically engineered from heavy wrought iron or rolled steel for structural strength, incorporating wire lattice shelves for airflow and brass or bronze decorative castings.

Authentic examples often feature stamped makers plaques from notable historic manufacturers, hand-riveted iron joints, solid rather than tubular metal construction, and natural wear to original painted or brass elements.

A substantial iron rack makes a striking focal point in an open-plan kitchen, dining space, or conservatory, providing open display space for cookware, potted plants, tableware, or glassware.

Dust surfaces regularly using a soft dry cloth and apply a wax polish to iron areas to protect against humidity and corrosion, while keeping brass components clean using a gentle metal preservative.
