A Spode Porcelain Image Handle Chocolate Cup in Pattern 2573 C.1817

Description

A Spode porcelain Image Handle Chocolate Cup, cover & stand c.1817-1819 in pattern 2573. Of slightly waisted form with gilt caryatid handles and butterfly finial, with a domed cover and ‘turned down’ rim stand, painted with bands of open pink roses and leaves among gilt leaves and branches, the mottled ground speckled in gilt. 

Described in the Spode 1820 Shape Book as Shape Number 163 ''Imaged Handled, Covered Chocolate with Turned Down Stand.'' 

For a pair of similar Chocolate Cups, see lot 558 of The Copeland China Collection sold by Bonhams on 24 July 2013.

Condition: Very good with just a tiny 'Y' shape crack to the stand.
