We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Jacobean Revival settle dates from 1920 and takes the form of a dark brown oak canopy box settle with a lift-up storage seat base. The timber displays a warm dark brown colour with varied grain patterns across the vertical fielded panels. The tall backrest incorporates three upper panels carved with floral rosettes below a shallow canopy top with an arched apron, flanked by shaped sides and short arms. The base features a panelled seat that opens to reveal internal storage, set above two carved front panels and raised on short legs with block feet. The piece measures 160 cm high, 145 cm wide, and 49.5 cm deep. In a modern interior, this settle suits an entrance hall, boot room or reception hallway for everyday seating and storage of boots and shoes. The display shelf along the canopy top provides space for plates or decorative objects in an English Country House setting. The sturdy construction and compact depth allow it to sit flush against a wall in narrow circulation spaces while offering practical hidden storage beneath the seat.

A canopy top box settle is a traditional high-backed wooden bench featuring an upper projecting canopy and a hinged seat unit that conceals internal storage space.

Settles were primarily constructed from solid European hardwoods, most notably oak and walnut, utilising pegged mortise and tenon joinery and carved panelwork.

Authentic 1920s Jacobean Revival pieces exhibit hand-finished floral or geometric relief carvings, deep fielded back panels, solid oak construction, and natural wear patterns around the armrests.

Position the settle in a hallway, entryway, or boot room to create a structural focal point, balancing the dark wood tones with neutral wall treatments or subtle soft furnishings.

Maintain oak surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry cloth and applying a high-grade beeswax polish along the grain annually to protect the finish and retain moisture.
