Lee Wright Antiques & Interiors Ltd has dated this Gothic Revival Oak Bench to the 19th Century.
A 19th Century English Oak Gothic Bench with Leather Seat.
Of large and imposing scale, this grand bench has an excellent colour with great patination. It is constructed from oak, its impressive form enhanced with many gothic details. The rosebud form finials, presumably a reference to the Tudor rose of England, and the back of the bench is accented with lancet-form carving in high relief, the inspiration taken from large windows in church architecture. The bench's arms are deeply scrolled with floral detailing. The plain seat with inset leather rests upon a moulded frieze with applied roundel decoration. Beneath this are heavy panelled leg blocks which connect to a turned tapering baluster foot.
