Superb Japanese Meiji (late 19thc) Bronze Okimono Of Shogun’s Horse, Maruki Company

Excellent quality Japanese Meiji (late 19thC/early 20thC) bronze okimono of the Shogun’s horse by the Maruki Company. Finely cast with its mane falling short of a well-detailed saddle, ornamented harness and stirrups, carved with the aoi-mon (hollycock crest) of the Tokugawa Family, signed on the belly with a seal-form square cartouche Maruki shachu sei; with the door of the tomobako storage box (damaged – not supplied) inscribed Rogata chudosei Shogun no shunba (Shogun''s steed in lost-wax cast bronze) and signed Zuisho tskuru with a seal Zuishodo sei. 35cm long x 27cm high x 12cm wide, weight 5.3kg.
Lovely original condition with nice patina.
Active during the Meiji Period, the Maruki Company were based in Nihonbashi ward in Tokyo. They are noted for the quality of their okimono and are renowned for producing fine quality bronzes of animals. They exhibited at many Japanese and International exhibitions at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th Century.
