A boldly carved Japanese wooden bear, worked in strong faceted cuts that give great texture and presence. Shown in a crouched pose with one paw extended, it has a rich dark stain and a tactile patina. The underside bears a carved maker’s mark, linking it to the Kibori Kuma carving tradition of Hokkaido.
