Antique Sultanabad Carpet

Description

Ancient Sultanabad carpet, woven around 130 years ago and full of wonderful charm and an abundance of character.  The design is a classical Mina-Khani design which is fabulous, an all over connecting floral pattern with connecting vines. Muted pinks, pale blues, soft greens and gold hues all on a deep red to brick red background.

We can see old restoration on this carpet, with areas of preservation and repairs, the overall look is one full of ancient colours and placed in the right setting it would look like it has lived there for over 100 years.

We would happily welcome you contacting us to request a home visit, having visited customers in their own homes for over 30 years. We feel it is vital to view carpets and rugs at home, so you can make the ideal choice, trying various options in a room. A professional, free service we have offered since 1990.

Sultanabad carpets originate from the city of Arak (formerly Sultanabad) in central Iran, manufactured extensively during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They were engineered specifically to meet Western interior design demands, featuring larger-scale motifs, suppler weaves, and balanced composition.

These carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a durable cotton warp and weft foundation. The dyes are traditionally derived from natural plant and mineral sources, creating subtle tonal shifts throughout the pile.
