History

Fulbert Pierre Larregieu (died 1886) was a 19th-century French sculptor known for his detailed bronze and wax works, often featuring animals and historical figures. Active in the late 1800s, his work appeared at the Paris Salon in 1877. He was known for producing high-quality bronze sculptures, frequently depicting animals such as a bloodhound ("Bloodhound se grattant l'oreille") and peacocks.

This French Art Nouveau sculpture, entitled Les Cinq Paons, dates from 1880 and depicts five peacocks. Cast in bronze with a golden brown finish, the figural group shows the birds perched upon and around an architectural balustrade decorated with trefoil relief panels and detailed plumage. The sculpture stands 18.5 cm high and weighs enough to function as a bookend or decorative accent.
