Delivery Terms

WE OFFER FREE DELIVERY TO ENGLAND, WALES, AND SCOTLAND (BELOW PERTH)

Shipping /delivery is equally as important to us as the item of furniture itself. It is simple; we deliver everything personally in England / Wales so this way we are 100% sure that the item / furniture reaches our customers safe and sound. We NEVER use couriers. Delivery is generally within 7-14 days of purchase. We guarantee delivery anywhere in England / Wales within 21 days of purchase.

Deliveries to Scotland as far north as Perth are guaranteed within 6 weeks of purchase. If delivery is required above Perth in Scotland please contact James on 07957 392 074 or

james@davidhuntantiques.com for a price.

Deliveries are either carried out by David or James as one member of the team is required to stay in the warehouse, therefore we do require assistance from the van into your hallway with the item of furniture. We have set delivery days and once the van is loaded (a day prior to delivery) David will call customers to arrange a two hour delivery time slot. Customers will also receive a text when delivery is 30 minutes away.

It is really helpful if customers can provide their ‘what3words’ location to make delivery as smooth

as possible, especially properties in rural locations.

Ireland Deliveries

We do use a very good courier company called DVM Service to deliver goods to Ireland. We ask the customer to pay this company direct for the delivery charge and we then liaise with DVM regarding collection of a customer’s item of furniture to be shipped to Ireland.

Europe & Rest of the World

We do not ship to Europe or the Rest of the World.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Settle benches originated in medieval Europe as high-backed wooden benches designed to block cold draughts and retain heat from open hearths. Over the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, regional variations developed, particularly across Eastern Europe, where painted folk art traditions added distinct regional colours and decorative motifs.

Traditional country settle benches were predominantly constructed from locally sourced softwoods such as pine or fir. Craftsmen used joinery techniques including mortise and tenon joints, wooden pegs, and hand-turned spindles, often finished with natural milk paint or distemper.

Authentic pieces feature signs of natural wear where hands and bodies regularly touch the wood, such as along the armrests and seat edges. Look for hand-turned spindles with subtle irregularities, original square-headed nails or wooden pegs, and layered paint finish showing natural oxidisation over time.

A painted settle bench serves as functional seating in entryways, boot rooms, or dining spaces alongside a scrubbed wood table. Soften the timber structure by pairing it with linen cushions or textured wool throws that contrast with the distressed painted finish.

Maintain original paintwork by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding chemical spray cleaners or excess water. Keep the item in a room with stable humidity to prevent the softwood frame from warping or cracking, and apply clear beeswax lightly to bare timber surfaces.
