Victorian Cast Iron Garden Bench, Ornate Sand-Cast Decoration, Solid Cast Iron Seat

A highly decorative late 19th century Victorian cast iron garden bench, dating to circa 1880–1900. This is a particularly attractive example, with a crisply sand-cast pierced back centred by an elaborate foliate and radiating motif, flanked by further scrolling panels of confident and well-resolved design.

The bench is of notably heavy, high-quality construction, typical of Victorian production, and features a solid cast iron slatted seat, rather than the more commonly encountered later timber replacements. This adds both to its durability and to its overall sense of authenticity, the casting throughout remaining crisp and well-defined across the arms, supports and understructure. The form is elegant yet robust, with well-shaped cabriole legs and a pleasing balance of proportion.

Importantly, the bench retains its old painted surface, now naturally worn and developed into a soft, even patina with areas of oxidation. This has not been stripped or over-restored, and presents exactly as one would hope — honest, untouched and full of character, while remaining entirely usable.

A strong and decorative piece, equally suited to garden or interior placement, and increasingly sought after in this original, unspoilt condition.

Condition:

A 30-day return period is offered for peace of mind. Items must be returned in the same condition as supplied.
