Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Pier finials were designed as decorative architectural toppers for stone gateposts, entrance pillars, and boundary walls, originating in classical antiquity and gaining popularity in 18th and 19th-century estate design. Eagles specifically represented strength, vigilance, and heraldic authority at formal estate entrances.

Composite stone, also known as reconstituted or cast stone, is made by combining crushed natural stone aggregates with cement or binder and pouring the mixture into intricate moulds. Once set, the material hardens to mimic solid carved stone while allowing detailed surface texturing.

Aged composite stone naturally develops a weathered surface characterised by lichen, moss, and subtle colour variations from long-term outdoor exposure. Older pieces may also show original moulding seams that have softened over decades of weathering.

These finials are traditionally placed atop brick or stone gate pillars to frame driveways and entryways. Alternatively, they function as grounded sculptural accents at the end of garden paths, flanking formal terraces, or positioned within manicured hedges.

To preserve weathered stone, avoid high-pressure water sprayers and harsh chemical cleaners which can strip natural patina. Gently brush away loose debris with a soft-bristled brush, and ensure the base is elevated slightly on mortar or stone pads to protect against frost damage.
