Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Scottish Baronial furniture, originating in the nineteenth century, draws inspiration from medieval castles and sixteenth-century Scottish architecture. Common features include heavy oak construction, elaborate relief carving, heraldic motifs, and bold architectural cresting.

Victorian oak settles were crafted using solid joinery techniques, including mortise and tenon joints, pegged construction, and hand-carved decorative panels. High-backed examples often featured a hinged seat opening to a box coffer base for structural stability and storage.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-tool marks on unexposed surfaces, natural timber shrinkage around panel joints, and a rich patina created by age and wax polishing. Construction details such as hand-cut dovetails and period-correct iron or brass hardware further confirm authenticity.

Position the settle in a spacious hallway or reception area as a focal architectural feature. Juxtapose the dark timber against modern neutral wall tones, understated stone flooring, and simple linen cushions to highlight the detailed woodwork.

Dust the surface regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth to prevent dirt build-up in carved recessed areas. Apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood fibres, preserve the original lustre, and protect against humidity changes.
