Rare French Art Deco (Ca 1925) Gilded Bronze Statue, ‘The Bather’, Raymond Leon Rivoire

1900 - 1920
Description

French vintage (ca 1925) gilded bronze, the bather by Raymond Leon Rivoire (1884-1966). Signed ‘R Rivoire’ on the marble base. 13cm high, 17cm wide x 7cm deep, weight 1.7kg.

Excellent. Marble base has been damaged and repaired.

A student of Jean Antoine Injalbert (1845-1933) at the École des Beaux-Arts, Rivoire began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1905. He won a gold medal at the Salon in 1929, leading to his most important commission and a milestone of the Art Deco era, the colossal marine group ‘The God Neptune drawn by a sea horse', for the luxurious French ocean liner SS Normandie launched in 1932. This sculpture was itself a pendant to his work 'The Goddess Artemis and her greyhound' commissioned for an earlier French Art Deco ship SS Transatlantique launched in 1925.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
