KATHARINE MURRAY-JARDINE: a truly delightful Edwardian BRONZE SCULPTURE of a pensive young girl, who stands unclothed but holding a cloak in her left hand. She wears her hair with two buns, one above each ear, popular during the period, in a style sometimes known as a “Gibson Girl”**, as she thoughtfully considers……? Signed to the integral base and dated 1925. This charming bronze is quite large ~ just over 16 inches (41 cms) high. Thoroughly recommended.

* Katharine Murray-Jadine is known for her figurative bronze and ceramic works, creating emotive figures of women, children and angels. She taught at the Glasgow Ceramic Studio, and is known to have exhibited her own works during the period 1919-1925.

** The “Gibson Girl” was the idealised version of American womanhood from the 1890s until after the First World War, depicted in drawings by Charles Dana Gibson, representing the “New Woman”, who was independent; athletic and educated, whilst also stylish and graceful….characteristics evident in this delightful sculpture.
