Description

FRANZ XAVER BERGMAN: an unusual and particularly fine quality Austrian “Vienna” cold-painted BRONZE FIGURE in excellent original condition. This good-sized bronze depicts an African warrior, crouched and holding an animal-skin shield, preparing to throw a spear. Naked from the waist up, he wears an animal-fur skirt held in place by a wide red belt, his long hair surmounted by an exotic headdress. The detail is typical of the quality of Bergman’s works ~ especially the facial expression of the warrior. This is signed (twice) with the Bergman signature; “Geschultz” (copyright) and a model number: 8678. Size, including the plinth base (well-variegated marble, not slate) is 11ins (28cms) high; the bronze itself: 7ins (18cms). Very fine condition with virtually all of the original paintwork intact. Highly recommended.
