Small William IV Mahogany Teapoy Attributed To Gillows

£495    $663    €567
A charming and unusually small antique William IV pedestal teapoy or floor standing tea caddy dating from circa 1830 and attributed to Gillows of Lancaster. A very fine quality piece with superb colour and patina to the mahogany and beautifully decorated with gadrooned mouldings typical of Gillows.

With sarcophagus shaped box raised on a tapered turned stem and standing on a pedestal base with quatrefoil platform and carved scroll feet. The hinged lid opens to reveal a fitted interior with its original removable tea container with remnants of its original foil lining and a velvet lined receptacle containing a cut glass mixing bowl.

This is an unusually small example standing only 69cm tall and with only one tea compartment and one mixing bowl, most teapoys having usually at least two caddies and larger in size. A fine and historical piece of early 19th century furniture, would make a wonderful lamp table.
