A candlestand is a small, tall table specifically designed to hold a candle or oil lamp for illumination in evenings before widespread electricity.

They were typically constructed from native hardwoods such as oak, elm, walnut, and mahogany, often featuring turned pedestals and tripod legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, hand-turned elements with tool marks, natural timber shrinkage, and historic patina built up over centuries.

It functions effectively as a compact accent table next to an armchair or sofa, providing a stable surface for small objects without dominating the room.

Maintain timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, and treat it periodically with traditional beeswax to nourish the finish.
