Japanese bronze casting has a long heritage, evolving significantly during the Meiji and Taisho periods when artisans combined traditional temple-casting techniques with detailed naturalistic sculptures for international and domestic markets.

These pieces are typically created using traditional lost-wax or sand-casting methods in copper alloy bronze, often finished with chemical patination to achieve deep, rich brown tones.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the weight, the depth and stability of the natural patination, the fineness of the chisel work, and the presence of artist signatures or foundry marks on the base.

They work effectively as focal points on bookshelves, sideboards, or mantelpieces, adding textural contrast and historical depth to modern minimalist or eclectic schemes.

Preservation involves keeping the metal out of direct sunlight, dusting gently with a soft dry cloth, and avoiding abrasive cleaners or polishes that can strip the historic patina.
