Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Preservation requires keeping the timber away from direct heat sources and strong sunlight to prevent warping and cracking, alongside occasional application of traditional beeswaxes to nourish the grain and maintain the natural surface sheen.

A dark wood bench can be styled in modern spaces by pairing it with contrasting neutral textiles, such as a textured linen cushion or wool throw, to soften the heavy timber presence while maintaining functional utility in a hallway or living room.

Authentication relies on examining the timber for natural patination, tool marks indicative of period hand-working or early machine methods, traditional peg joinery, and wear patterns consistent with age rather than artificial distressing.

Authentic period benches are constructed predominantly from solid hardwood such as European oak, frequently utilizing traditional joinery techniques including mortise and tenon joints, hand-turned legs, and secured stretcher bases for structural stability.

Hall benches and window seats gained prominence in British domestic architecture during the 18th and 19th centuries, designed specifically for placement in entrance halls or beneath large windows to provide practical seating for putting on shoes or observing the outdoors.
