This Georgian delft rack dates from the period between 1770 and 1790, made in England from oak and pine with a dark brown finish. The piece measures 108 cm high, 119.4 cm wide, and 17.8 cm deep, designed for wall mounting above a sideboard. The structure incorporates a moulded cornice above open pierced fretwork, flanked by fluted pilasters on either side. Horizontal wooden bars act as plate retainers across the open shelving sections, displaying five ceramic plates decorated with blue, white, and golden-brown painted landscapes. The woodwork shows a warm natural tone with visible grain patterns across the timber frame. Dentil moulding runs beneath the top edge, complementing the architectural lines of the columns and the decorative fretwork frieze. The rack provides traditional open storage and display space for kitchenware or tableware collections within a domestic interior. The construction relies on traditional joinery techniques typical of late eighteenth-century country furniture production, offering both display utility and period decorative character.

A delft rack is an open wall-mounted or freestanding shelving frame featuring shallow shelves and horizontal retainer bars, historically designed to display delftware, tin-glazed earthenware, and pewter plates in 18th-century dining spaces.

Georgian delft racks were predominantly constructed from regional hardwoods like oak or softwoods such as pine, using hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, hand-pierced timber fretwork, and architectural moulding details.

Authentic 18th-century plate racks display hand-sawn timber marks, hand-forged iron fixings or wooden dowels, uneven wear around the shelf grooves, and natural timber shrinkage across wide horizontal elements.

An antique delft rack can be wall-mounted above a kitchen counter or dining room sideboard to showcase modern ceramics, art prints, or vintage tableware, providing functional vertical display.

Clean the rack using a dry, soft lint-free cloth and apply a thin layer of natural beeswax polish annually to protect the original patination, avoiding placement near direct radiator heat sources.
