Ancient Roman Period Carved Limestone Busts, AD200, 11cm mounted.
Offered for sale are 2 hand carved, ancient limestone carved bust heads, funery busts circa 200AD, probably the Near East, Palmera region, tbc, an associated pair of antiquity, believed to be circa 200AD.
Each measures apx 11cm tall and mounted into ebonised wood blocks, from a collection with the label describing them as 200AD, Saccone, whilst difficult to verify, this period is consistent with this style of carving and subject, traces of old plant branch dried into the side of one head, these are not 20th century reproductions, later mounted.
The carvings show simplified facial features which are typical of village artisans around this period.
