Victorian gilt gesso mirrors feature moulded plaster composition applied over a wooden core frame, which is then gilded with leaf or liquid metallic finishes. During the mid to late nineteenth century, designers drew inspiration from Baroque and Rococo styles, characteristically incorporating scrolls, acanthus leaves, and prominent crestings.
