Louis XVI style mirrors feature neoclassically inspired ornamentation including ribbon bow crestings, floral garlands, guilloche mouldings, and oval or rectangular frames with refined symmetry.

These mirrors were crafted with carved timber frames coated in gessoa smooth mixture of chalk and binderwhich was then layered with gold leaf or metal leaf gilding over a reflective glass plate.

Authentic pieces display subtle wear to the gold leaf revealing red or yellow clay bole underneath, minor cracking or craquelure in the gesso, and historic wood joinery or plaster backing.
