Description

An excellent bronze of a trotting cob ' Appleby Fair' by renowned equestrian artist Philip Blacker. Born in 1949 and a memeber of the Royal Society of Sculptors Philip Blacker was a successful jockey for 13 years winning 340 races and is now recognised as one of the most important names in 20th century sporting art. He is perhaps best known for his monumental sculptures of racehorses including in 1987 his first work: a life-size sculpture of Red Rum at Aintree Racecourse, unveiled one year later by the Princess Royal.

He has produced numerous works across the UK and abroad; including racecourse bronzes of Best Mate at Cheltenham, Generous at Epsom, Persian Punch at Newmarket, Desert Orchid at Kempton Park, Makybe Diva at Flemington in Melbourne, Northern Dancer at Woodbine in Canada and an 18-foot stallion in Saudi Arabia.

This particular bonze captures the movement of its subject with absolute perfection. Initialled, dated and numbered 2 from a world wide edition of only 5
