FAQs

Waterfall shelving features a stepped design where each shelf is shallower than the one below it, gaining popularity during the 19th century for displaying books and decorative objects efficiently against walls.

Authentic period pieces are typically crafted from dense hardwoods like mahogany or walnut, often featuring dovetail joints, shaped side supports, and brass hanging brackets fitted to the rear frame.

Authentication involves examining the timber grain, checking for hand-cut joinery, observing natural patina and oxidisation, and inspecting the hardware for period-appropriate manufacturing techniques.

Such shelving can be mounted above a desk or sideboard to display curated book collections, ceramics, or small sculptures, adding vertical storage and traditional warmth to the room.

Preservation requires avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity fluctuations to prevent wood warping, alongside occasional dusting with a soft dry cloth and sparing application of quality beeswax.
