Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

The washstand emerged as an essential bedroom or dressing room fixture before plumbed bathrooms became standard in residential homes, typically featuring a surface for a basin, pitcher, and personal care items.

Traditional washstands were predominantly crafted from solid local timbers such as pine, oak, or mahogany, frequently paired with durable stone surfaces like marble or granite to resist water damage, alongside decorative ceramic tiles.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery techniques, hand-carved details, original hardware such as brass or cast-iron pulls, and natural age-related patina on the timber and marble surfaces.

An antique washstand can function as a distinctive vanity unit in a modern bathroom, a hallway console, or a practical side table in a living area, contrasting traditional craftsmanship with contemporary surroundings.

Preservation involves cleaning timber surfaces with a soft, dry cloth and applying natural wax periodically, while marble tops require gentle cleaning with pH-neutral solutions to prevent staining and etching.
