A beautiful antique oak settle with shaped arm rests, cabriole legs and a backrest with eight panels, c1800. The settle has developed a lovely patina over years of use. The back slopes back a little so it is comfortable to sit on, especially with the new velvet seat cushion we have had made to fit it.
A large and attractive settle that would be equally suited to use as a hall bench, or as seating alongside a dining table. The panelled back has a lovely colour and when the light hits it just right you can see the little variations in the hand finished timber. We have fitted oak slats to support the seat cushion as the original supports had been lost, and have had a new seat cushion made. This has a removable cover in a liquid repellant wipe clean mustard colour velvet, which can be dry cleaned if necessary.
The seat height is approximately 45.5cm excluding the cushion, and approximately 52cm including cushion.
Condition: The bench has had a couple of repairs over the years, the most obvious where the left hand armrest meets the back where some timber has been spliced in, and on the right hand armrest support. There are some small losses to the moulding along the top of the back panel. The armrests have some wear, and there appears to be an old area of damage to the foot on right hand foreleg. I have tried to show all these things in the photos. It is a good solid piece of furniture and is very comfy to sit on.
