Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

An okimono is a traditional Japanese freestanding sculpture, typically displayed in an alcove or on a shelf, which gained significant popularity during the Meiji period for export and domestic decoration.

Meiji period metalwork often utilises high-grade bronze alloys, frequently featuring patination techniques to achieve varied surface colours, sometimes accented with gold, silver, or shibuichi inlays.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit meticulous chiselling, naturalistic patination, appropriate weight, and often bear an artisan signature or foundry mark cast or engraved into the base.

Placing a patinated bronze object on a minimalist console table or open bookshelf allows the sculptural form and aged metal texture to act as a focal point against neutral backgrounds.

Antique bronze should be dusted gently with a soft, dry cloth. Chemical cleaners, polishes, or water must be avoided to preserve the historical patina and protective oxidation layer.
