Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A Georgian corner washstand is a specialized piece of 18th-century furniture designed to fit snugly into a rooms corner, featuring a cut-out top to hold a wash basin and pitcher for daily hygiene before running water was common in bedrooms.

These washstands were typically constructed using dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, often incorporating secondary woods like pine for internal framing and drawer linings.

Authenticity is identified through period construction techniques such as hand-cut dovetails on drawers, traditional timber shrinkage, appropriate patination, and original hardware fittings consistent with the 18th or early 19th century.

In a contemporary setting, a corner washstand serves as an architectural display surface or a distinctive plant stand in a hallway, bedroom, or living room corner to add historic character and vertical interest.

Preserve antique mahogany by keeping it out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources to prevent wood splitting, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying microcrystalline wax to nourish the finish.
