We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

A whatnot is an open piece of tiered shelving introduced in the late 18th century and widely popular during the Regency era, primarily used for displaying ornaments, books, and curiosities.

These pieces were typically constructed from high-grade tropical hardwoods such as mahogany or rosewood, featuring turned upright supports, multiple graduated shelves, and frequently incorporating a single drawer at the base or top.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails in the drawer construction, patination consistent with age, traditional timber shrinkage, and turned or reeded uprights characteristic of early 19th-century cabinet making.

A wooden tiered shelving unit functions effectively as a display piece in a living room or study, where it can be styled with curated stacks of books, ceramics, and small sculptures to add vertical interest.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent cracking, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the polished surface.
