Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This 19th century Victorian walnut folio stand in the manner of Gillows displays a warm brown timber colour throughout. The piece consists of latticework leaves with vertical slatted supports and an adjustable rising action positioned between trestle ends, alongside panelled sides, turned stretchers, and splayed legs. Visible details include shaped upright arms with raised crestings, decorative turned nodes on the lower stretchers, and linear mouldings framing the structural frame. The stand measures 116 cm high, 79 cm wide, and 41 cm deep. Placed in a gentlemans library or a study, this standing display unit suits an empty corner where it holds oversized books, maps, or art prints ready for reference.

FAQs

An antique folio stand is a specialised piece of furniture designed during the nineteenth century to store, display, and organise large architectural drawings, prints, maps, or folios.

Traditional folio stands were primarily constructed from solid hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, often featuring brass fittings, turned stretchers, and slatted or panelled frames.

Authentic nineteenth-century pieces typically exhibit hand-cut joinery, original patination on the timber, functional hinged mechanisms, and natural wear along the base and stretchers.

A folio stand can be positioned in a study, library, or living space to display contemporary art prints, large-format books, or architectural plans.

Keep the timber away from direct heat sources or high humidity, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth, and apply a high-quality beeswax polish annually to nourish the wood.
