19th Cent. Italian Alabaster Sculpture, of a Seated Maiden, with Water Pitcher By Pugi, Circa 1890

Beautifully refined antique marble statue of a seated water carrier by Gugliemo Pugi the serene contemplative figure of a maiden in classical attire holding an amphora, in contrasting white and mottled grey marble. Exquisite detail to her hands and face, she is wearing a patterned headscarf and draped robe.

Guglielmo Pugi (1850-1915):

Born in Tuscany in Fiesole, worked in Florence where he has his studio-atelier,

Many works created by the sculptor were made for the foreign market, especially

towards the United States. In 1901 he participated in the Buffalo Fair in New York

and in 1904 in Missouri at the Exposition Universelle.
