Emmanuel Cavacos: A Naked Bronze Dancer

Description

Emmanuel-André CAVACOS (1887-1976): a good Art Deco period Bronze Figure of a naked dancer entitled “Joy”. She is depicted dancing with gay abandon as she balances on one leg. Good original dark green patina; signed within the integral bronze base. 18ins (45cms) high.

** Emmanuel-André CAVACOS was born in 1887 on the island of Kythera in the Greek Ionian Sea. He emigrated to America when sixteen, and in 1911 won the Rinehart Scholarship, which enabled him to move to Paris where he worked at the Beaux Arts School. His work is in a number of international collections including Queen Maria of Rumania, who bought one of his marble figures.
