This a fine quality antique English Victorian walnut etagere / display stand, decorated with a gilt gallery and marquetry inlaid panels, comprising three tiers with a lockable drawer, circa 1870, in good condition.
The top incorporates a brown veined leather skiver; the perimeter is decorated with an elegant brass fretwork gallery, with circular protruding corners. A single working drawer sits below the top section; retaining its original brass key escutcheon, working brass lever lock and original key. The drawer is constructed from chestnut linings, with fine quality hand-dovetail joints. The drawer front is decorated in a walnut border, with boxwood string inlay and a bird’s eye maple central panel. The frieze of the top section is decorated with a brass rope moulding, which is replicated on the two lower shelves below.
Both of the lower shelves are decorated with a walnut border, boxwood string inlay and a bird’s eye maple central panel incorporating stunning marquetry work, featuring a variety of woods, such as boxwood, holly and olive wood.
Condition Report:
This a fine quality antique English Victorian walnut etagere / display stand, decorated with a gilt gallery and marquetry inlaid panels, comprising three tiers with a lockable drawer, circa 1870, in good condition. Nominal old use marks to the top shelf and leading edges but nothing significant considering its age. The mahogany display stand has been wax-polished to a professional standard; therefore, it boasts a stunning colour, whilst retaining its original patination. The drawer is in good working condition and retains its original key escutcheon and key. Likewise, the feet are original and in good condition. This Victorian walnut etagere is solid in joint and ready to use.
