Antique 19th Cent Bronze Figural Sculpture / Smoking Stand. Continental, C. 1880
Fabulous 19th Century Bronze figural sculpture / smoking stand.
The subject being a ‘Saltimbanque and his menagerie’, a travelling entertainer.
The entertainer is wearing a flamboyant outfit including a top hat, he is accompanied by a donkey and a monkey both adorned with decorative accessories.
There is a basket attached to the donkey filled with a puppy and birds.
At first glance it appears to be a bronze sculpture, however when looking at it from behind it also doubles as a smoking stand… There is a drum which holds 6 x cigarettes, a mile marker which opens up to reveal a match holder and the entertainer’s hat opens as an ashtray.
A fantastic unique piece, with intricate detail.
