This Regency rosewood chiffonier stands 126 cm high, 76 cm wide, and 40 cm deep, presenting a diminutive silhouette in a dark brown timber finish. The upper section comprises a raised back shelf enclosed by a shallow gallery and supported by slender turned column finials, sitting above a rectangular top. Below, the two cabinet doors display pleated cream fabric panels set within recessed wooden frames, secured by a central brass strip and accessorised with a tasselled hanging key. Carved floral rosettes accent the top corners above plain pilasters, and the entire structure rests on simple plinth feet. Circa 1820, the piece offers compact storage suited for a living room, hallway, or dining space to hold books, glassware, or decorative objects on its internal shelves and upper surface.

A Regency chiffonier is a low, compact side cabinet originating in early 19th-century Britain. Typically featuring a flat top, raised upper shelf supported by columns, and enclosed cupboard doors, it was designed for storing books, dining linens, or small household items.

Cabinetmakers during the Regency era primarily utilised imported hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany. Doors often incorporated pleated silk or fabric panels behind brass wire grilles or framed timber, complemented by cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic Regency pieces display hand-cut dovetail joinery, original brass hardware, and turned or reeded columns supporting an upper shelf. Period cabinets often feature distinctive timber graining, such as figured rosewood veneer, along with original pleated fabric inserts.

Position the cabinet against a focal wall in a hallway, dining space, or living room. The upper shelf provides display room for ceramics or framed artwork, while the interior cupboard serves as concealed functional storage.

Dust the wood regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and apply a beeswax polish annually following the direction of the grain. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent drying, cracking, or timber fading.
