Where were these carpets made?

These floor coverings originate from nineteenth-century Persian workshops, particularly around Sultanabad, established to supply Western markets. European firms directed local weavers to adapt traditional patterns into larger scales and muted palettes suitable for grand houses.

How do I place a large carpet?

Palace and country house scales require substantial rooms with high ceilings to let the expansive open fields breathe properly. Positioning furniture slightly off or entirely outside the main central medallion allows the intricate border work to remain visible.

What defines the colour palette?

The palette relies on softer, subdued tones achieved through natural dyes that mellow gracefully over more than a century of time. Soft terracottas, muted blues, and gentle creams replace the saturated reds and deep indigos typical of purely domestic Persian weaving.

Are these pieces suitable for heavy foot traffic?

The dense wool pile and sturdy cotton foundations built into these nineteenth-century floor coverings provide robust durability for active living spaces. Placing a quality underlay beneath the carpet cushions the wool fibres and reduces friction against hard flooring.
