What is a wooden cocktail cabinet?

A wooden cocktail cabinet is a specialised piece of furniture created to store bottles, decanters, glasses and barware for entertaining guests at home. These pieces typically feature dedicated internal compartments, drop-down serving flaps and glass display areas designed to keep everything needed for mixing drinks neatly organised.

How do I date a cocktail cabinet?

Dating relies on identifying the prevailing style, construction methods, and materials used in the piece, such as Art Deco geometric lines or Edwardian mahogany frames. Looking at the hardware, locks, and internal fittings also helps place the cabinet within periods ranging from the nineteenth century through the 1930s.

Where should I place a drinks cabinet?

These cabinets work best in principal reception rooms, living spaces or dining areas where you naturally entertain guests. Ensure the piece has sufficient clearance around it if it includes drop-down flaps, sliding doors, or metamorphic sections that extend during use.

How do I care for burr walnut?

Protect burr walnut surfaces by keeping them away from direct sunlight, which can fade the rich tones of the wood veneer over time. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid placing wet glasses directly on the polished timber to prevent water rings.
