Are the marble tops original to the cupboards?

Most marble tops are original to their respective cabinets, shaped specifically to fit the dimensions of the timber carcase. The weight and cut of the stone usually match the period of the base. Differences in edge profiling and stone thickness help confirm whether a top has remained with its original cabinet since manufacture.

How do I clean a marble top cupboard?

Use a soft cloth dampened with warm water and a mild, neutral soap to wipe the stone surface clean. Avoid acidic cleaners or vinegar, which can etch the polished finish of the marble. Dry the stone thoroughly after washing to prevent water spots and protect the porous surface from lingering moisture.

Can I use these cupboards as bedside tables?

Many of these pieces are specifically designed as bedside cabinets or night tables, making them ideal for bedroom use. The marble surface provides a durable resting place for water jugs and lamps. Their compact proportions allow them to sit comfortably alongside standard bed heights while offering concealed storage inside.

What woods are commonly found in these cabinets?

The listings feature a variety of timbers, with mahogany, rosewood, and walnut appearing frequently in British and continental pieces. Softer woods like pine and oak also appear, often under painted or polished finishes. Exotic veneers and marquetry work often distinguish the more decorative examples from simpler utility furniture.
