How do I choose the right size bed?

Consider the proportions of your bedroom and measure available floor space carefully before selecting a frame. Single, double, and king size options accommodate different room dimensions while maintaining timber character. Take into account ceiling height as well, particularly when placing large panelled headboards or beds with ornate crestings.

How do I care for antique wood furniture?

Maintain timber surfaces by dusting regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoiding placement near direct heat sources. Natural waxes nourish the wood and preserve the warm brown finish over time. Protect the finish from moisture by using coasters and mats on any matching bedside cabinets or auxiliary furniture.

Can I use standard modern mattresses with these beds?

Many antique frames accommodate standard mattress sizes, though older French and continental pieces can feature non-standard dimensions. Check internal rail measurements prior to purchasing a mattress. Custom slats or modern supportive bases can often be fitted within historical frames to ensure proper mattress support.

What defines the French style in these beds?

French bedsteads frequently incorporate sweeping curves, carved motifs, and distinct stylistic references such as Louis XV or Louis XVI designs. These elements emphasise decorative woodwork and grand proportions. Such frames often feature prominent headboards and lower footboards designed to serve as focal points within a bedroom scheme.
